Breaking boards is an exercise which demonstrates proficiency of the mental and physical skills a Taekwondo student must acquire to reach new levels.
Speed, mass, reaction force, balance, concentration and breath control are all components of the martial arts of the theory of power. For a child to break a board all of these components must come together. The student should feel challenged, apprehension, focused, perseverance and an overall pride of achievement.
Most breaks are done with the knee, the hand or the foot. The instructor will guide a student on which of the breaks to perform.
All parents and friends are invited to watch as the children perform their breaks.
Please check with your Next Generations Center when they are having their Board Breaking Day.
